WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE (AND LEAVE)?
The main conference programming will take place Thurs, April 9 and Fri, April 10 approx 9am - 5pm, with a social event Thurs evening. People will be casually hanging out Wednesday evening as they arrive, and of course those who can may wish to stay part of Saturday or even longer. But if you need to jet in Thursday morning and jet out Friday evening, that's fine too!
WAIT, WHAT IS THIS?
This is a conference for ambitious feminists who want to do their own thing, effectively and with verve. For some of us, that means becoming CEO. For some of us, that means starting our own business. For most of us, it means doing really amazing work in whatever field we're in, while changing the world a little for the better.
The conference is curated by GetBullish, an organization that provides badass business and career advice to (mostly) women through articles, webinars, a membership society, and this conference. Visit GetBullish.com for more.
WHO CAN COME TO THIS?
This is a conference intended for career-focused feminists. While most attendees are women and nonbinary folks in their twenties, thirties, and early forties, we have been delighted to have attendees all the way up to 65. We are an explicitly LGBT-friendly organization. We have also had international attendees from the UK, Canada, Brazil, Panama, Mexico, Haiti and more!
We have conference tracks for employees/future CEOs, entrepreneurs/freelancers/people doing their own thing, and anyone who likes to go hard on projects that mean something.
IS THIS AN ACTIVIST CONFERENCE?
Not exactly. This is a career conference – a conference about leveling up your career or business, side hustle(s), and life. A conference about taking no B.S. and getting what you want. Fortunately, this is also a conference by and for feminists, who pretty much universally believe that success includes trying to make the world better. For some people that means activism, for some it means philanthropy, for some it means being ready and able to help those around you when sh*t gets bad. We want our attendees, and women and marginalized people in general, to have the resources and freedom to resist, help, and fix things in every way.
VIRGINIA BEACH? IS THAT, LIKE, IN VIRGINIA?
It is! Virginia Beach has a nearly 5 mile long boardwalk, a couple of lighthouses, a delightfully moderate climate (a beach, but you don't feel like you're personally melting!), a delicious beachy-Southern food culture, and a bright and fun shuffleboard parlor, Beachside Social, that will serve as our mainstage (they've graciously allowed us to use their photos throughout the site, as you can see!) We'll also be holding sessions directly across the street at the Hyatt House Virginia Beach, where we also have our room block. Every room in this oceanfront hotel has an ocean-facing balcony!
HOW DO I MAKE HOTEL AND TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS?
After you buy your ticket, make your reservation online with Hyatt House Virginia Beach using this booking link. Our room rate is $189. (You're not required to stay at the hotel to attend the conference, but the programming will take place in the hotel and directly across the street at Beachside Social, so Hyatt House certainly is convenient!) The conference is all day Thursday April 9 and Friday April 1o, so you're going to want to arrive on Wednesday.
The local airport is Norfolk Virginia Beach (ORF). It's an easy Lyft ride to the oceanfront. It's also really easy to meet people at ORF – it's built around one sunny central atrium, and has just one big outside dropoff/pickup spot. We'll do our best to help people share rides!
Driving in? Hotel parking is just $9/day (we negotiated that!)
* Reservation cutoff date is March 8
* Parking is $9/day
* Checkin 4pm, checkout 11am
You can also call the hotel at 800-886-0451 & ask to reserve a room in the Bullish group block over the dates of April 8 - April 11. The room block is for these dates only. If you want to stay longer, you can book on the hotel's main site without using our code (they still have rooms for the weekend after!), or call the hotel. FYI, the hotel has some rooms with kitchenettes -- I would call to arrange one of those if you have a need.
WILL MY COMPANY PAY FOR THIS?
If they are super cool and amazing, maybe! If they are very straight-laced and enjoy the patriarchy, probably not! Some attendees have indeed gotten their employers to pay (sometimes by promising to make a presentation to a women's group when they return about the things they learned). Give it a shot!
WE HAVE A GROUP, CAN WE GET A GROUP DISCOUNT?
Absolutely. BullCon is a GREAT outing for a company women's group or any other small group. We're also happy to chat to make sure this will meet your team training needs. Email us at
CAN YOU HELP ME CUT COSTS BY FINDING A ROOMMATE?
Yep! After you've bought your ticket, email email@example.com to request a roommate. Either there's someone before you waiting for a roommate, in which case we'll match you right away, or else we'll just hold onto your information until someone after you requests a roommate. You and your roomie can get in touch before the conference and get to know each other! You two will work out who makes the reservation and how you'll pay (of course the hotel can process two credit cards). Please note that our involvement ends with making a suggestion and email introduction – you'll take it from there.
WHAT IS THE BULLISH SOCIETY?
It's our online membership community. When you buy your conference ticket, you'll be given an option to add a Lifetime Membership at a special reduced rate. Totally optional, though!
DOES MY TICKET INCLUDE ANY MEALS?
Heck yes! Breakfast and lunch on Thursday and Friday will be catered by Beachside Social.
If you have dietary restrictions (we always get plenty of vegans), no worries! We'll send out an email to all the registrants asking about this to make sure the catering staff is ready.
DO YOU WORK WITH BRANDS? CAN WE SPONSOR?
Yes! We usually work with 3-5 brands only, so they get a lot of love. Get in touch at and we'll send you our kit and set up a call.
WHAT ABOUT MEDIA/PRESS PASSES?
We are open to media partnerships with women's and business publications having primarily US-based audiences. We have previously worked with DailyWorth and A Practical Wedding.
ARE TICKETS REFUNDABLE IF I CAN'T ATTEND?
There are no refunds. If you are unable to attend, tickets can be transferred to another person. We are also able to transfer the tickets into a scholarship opportunity! We will find a replacement, and you'll be a superstar in someone's eyes.
HOW DOES THIS "TRACK" THING WORK?
The tracks – Slay @ Work, Money + Biz, Personal Development – are a way of organizing our programming, but you don't need to commit to just one track! During the conference, you can attend any sessions you like.
BUT, I MEAN ... WILL I LIKE IT?
Here are some things we DON'T like in conferences: Huge crowds. Not enough seats. Feeling cramped. Everything being loud. Being advertised to constantly. Not enough access to speakers. Not a comfortable enough setup to settle in and take notes. Gab-filled panel discussions where no one actually prepared any content before showing up. Wishing it were happy hour already.
So, we made a conference that is the opposite of all those things.
IS THE EVENT ACCESSIBLE?
Both venues are fully ADA-compliant and are across the street from one another, with a sidewalk path and curb cuts at each of two crosswalks that can be used to cross. Ample time is provided for moving from one location to another. There is a 1" lip into the shuffleboard court for anyone who wishes to play. Please contact us if you require any other information.
